Taiwan History
The history of Taiwan is filled with continuous wars and conflicts with China. In the 17th century, Taiwan was a part of the mainland of China as ‘Formosa’. Then, for 40 years, it was under Spanish and Dutch rule. In 1885, Qing dynasty took full charge of Taiwan and declared it an independent province. After a decade, Japan captured Taiwan by defeating China in the Sino-Japanese war.
Taiwan was under Japanese rule since 1895 but this Japanese rule came to an end when it was defeated in World War II. After a long unrest between China and Taiwan, in early 1970, USA supported Taiwan for a long time under the treaty of Beijing and USA. Still, the Chinese think Taiwan as a part of their national territory and their efforts are directed to reunite Taiwan with Chinese mainland.
