Where is Taiwan Located ?
Taiwan (also known as "Formosa" or "The Republic of China") consists of the islands of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu, and some minor islands in the seas east of the mainland of China (in the Philippine Sea and the Taiwan Strait, extensions of the western North Pacific Ocean).
Located entirely in the Pacific Ocean 360 miles (580 km) to the northeast of Hong Kong, 120 miles (160 km) from the mainland of China, it bestrides the Tropic of Cancer. Because of the split between the Nationalists and Communists following the 1949 war, China still claims jurisdiction over Taiwan and vice versa.
